At Leicester Therapeutic School, we ensure our curriculum is immersive by having overarching Curriculum Connection Anchors for each half-term (through a topic approach). Our curriculum is based on an ‘interconnected curriculum approach’ which relies on strategic mapping that builds a well-sequenced curriculum to develop understanding and strengthen schemata. Our curriculum is based on the theory that ‘without critical alignment all other curriculum areas will lack in purpose, vision and direction’ (Turner, 2023). Our aim is to ensure the children at Leicester Therapeutic understand that their learning is purposeful through having awe inspiring overarching anchors (topics) that capture imagination and inspire learning outcomes.
Leicester Therapeutic School is committed to providing a supportive and nurturing PSHE programme that promotes the wellbeing and personal development of every pupil.
We believe that PSHE is essential in helping pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to manage their lives now and in the future. Our approach ensures that pupils feel valued, safe, and respected, and that they can explore personal and social issues in a supportive environment. We also teach Mindfulness and Zones of regulation under our PSHE umbrella of subjects.
Our approach to PSHE is based on the following key principles:

Purpose: At LTS we use characters to represent each area of learning to make education more engaging, relatable, and inclusive for our children. Characters provide a visual hook that helps pupils build memory links and connect with concepts more easily than through abstract ideas alone. They encourage active participation by guiding children through stories, challenges, and learning journeys, fostering motivation and curiosity. By reflecting diversity in abilities, backgrounds, and interests, the characters also promote inclusivity, ensuring every child feels represented and valued.
